This course aims to:

Examine the role of Head of Department and the appointment process, in order to prepare aspiring HoDs for its challenges. The programme will focus on two main issues; the ‘principles’ of leadership and key leadership ‘processes’ at departmental level.

This course is for:

Aspiring Heads of Academic Departments or recently appointed Heads of Academic Departments.

This course includes:

  • Discussion of the most effective academic leadership and getting the best from your team
  • Discussion of scenarios exploring the Head of Department role
  • Experiences of recently appointed Heads of Department
  • ‘What the Head and Senior Management Team are looking for’
