This course is for: Members of School Leadership Teams, Heads of Departments and Data Managers

• Understand the key principles of value-added data

• Interpret the forms, reliability and patterns of ‘value-added’ data in CEM’s secondary systems (MidYIS, Yellis and ALIS) and use them to improve teaching and learning outcomes

15.30 – 16.00 Welcome and introduction, key principles of value-added data


Login & registration. What should (and shouldn’t) we use value-added data for? How can I convince colleagues, pupils and parents of the usefulness of CEM value-added data? We will also discuss how CEM data fit into the EEF’s School Improvement framework.


16.00 – 17.10 Value-added in CEM’s secondary assessments

An overview of the MidYIS, Yellis and ALIS assessments and how value-added data are presented. We will also discuss the different standardisations and how these impact on value added.


17.10 – 17.20 Break

17.20 – 18.30 Driving change through value-added data

Using real examples from schools, we will discuss how value-added data can be used to influence decision making in school. Consideration will also be given to the different patterns of value-added data and how these can impact upon decisions in school.
