Employment Law and how it affects you – Ask the Lawyer

Speaker: Polly O’Malley, Partner, Browne Jacobson

This session will explore key employment law issues, particularly those affecting women in the workplace. Topics include dependents leave, flexible working, sex discrimination, redundancy rights for pregnant employees, and holiday entitlements. Relevant for both you and the teams you manage, it will provide practical insights into workplace rights. Polly will also invite questions from attendees—both in advance and during the session—to ensure a focused and engaging discussion. Given the ongoing developments in flexible working policies, this promises to be a timely and valuable conversation.

Navigating Difficult Times with Self Compassion

In this session, Mindfulness Teacher and Mentor, Kay Buckby, will introduce self-compassion as an essential skill for leadership and life. Learning self-compassion builds resilience, makes us happier, and kinder to others. Drawing on the research of Kristin Neff and Chris Germer, Kay will share how small changes help you be kinder to yourself and others. In difficult times, the best leaders know they can’t pour from an empty cup. Self-compassion helps us become our internal ally, spending energy resourcefully instead of being drained by the inner critic, judge, or imposter. Being our own best friend enables us to achieve more, manage struggles better, and navigate difficulties with acceptance and tenderness. This session will include a short meditation for those who wish to participate.
