Biography

Jonathan Storey is nationally recognised (and listed by Chambers and Partners and by the Legal 500) as a leading practitioner in the field of professional regulationBest known for his work with teachers and school leaders appearing before the Teaching Regulation Agency and Education Workforce Council (in which he is regularly instructed by all the major teaching unions), hcombines a busy defence practice on behalf of regulated professionals with quasi-judicial roles as a Legally Qualified Chair of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal, as Legally Qualified Chair of police misconduct hearings, and as a lay panellist and chair of the Fitness to Practise Committees of both the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Social Care Wales. 

Jonathan undertook pupillage (under the supervision of District Judge Timothy Boswell, as he is now) and practised at the Criminal Bar before developing a successful specialist practice in professional disciplineHe previously worked for several years in Whitehall, in a variety of high-profile roles involving responsibility for UK defence and security relations with the countries of the Nordic and Baltic region, conflict prevention and peacekeeping policy, strategic planning and horizon-scanningArmy discipline and Court Martial, and information rights. He also undertook a year’s secondment to the voluntary sector as Deputy Operations Director of a leading medical charity. His last post in the Civil Service was as head of the Ministry of Defence’s public law and human rights litigation and policy team, responsible for managing the MOD’s defence in a very broad range of judicial reviews and other cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court engaging public law and human rights issues.
